The day passed. And with it the storm clouds drifted away.
Eulia stopped by not long after. It was as if the clearer skies became a sign for her to come by — which apparently wasn't too far from the truth.
With a happy chirp and a "Letter for John Doe! Letter for John Doe!" the drenched and dismal-looking harpy woman landed on the balcony. Without much fanfare she handed you some envelopes.
"Well you took your sweet time." You smiled at her. "How are things holding up?"
"Prettygoodthankyou! Stormwasbadbutstillfoundmywayaroundit!" Was her jumble of a reply.
"I'm gonna ask you to speak a little slower." You said, amused.
"Alright-y!" She complied. "Basically, I wanted to come here sooner, but the rain was getting waaaay too strong! And then I remembered how that doctor—he's also a harpy, by the by—told me that I needed to rest or else my body wouldn't be able to handle the strain! So I spent some time in the woods in a witch's hut and ate berries while the rain poured. The forest is safer to be in, by the way. Not a single bandit or goblin or undead in sight!"
"Looks like you've had a rough time against the elements."
"I've gone through worse." She smiled, puffing herself with pride.
"Do you want me to ramp up the challenge?" You teased. "There's some pretty strong monsters I could bring in from the mountains-"
"Nu-uh. Nochallengesplease!" Eulia instantly deflated, giving you a pleading smile. "I'm super grateful about the forest being safe now!"
"I'm kidding." You said to her relief. "That safety is the result of tons of effort, I wouldn't get rid of it unless it's for a good reason." The worst you could now find in the woods were low level enemies like wolves and slimes, as well as the occassional larger spiders— all of which were small fry when compared to the organized monsters and criminals that once made their homes there.
"By the way, did that harpy doc happen to be called Nicodemus?" You ask out of curiousity, to which she gave a few rapid-fire nods. "Huh, small world. Well I can vouch that he's a decent doctor."
"Yup he's alright! Gave me a free checkup too! Said I was pinnacle of harpy speed!" She puffed up proudly again.
"I'm surprised there isn't a substitute that can come here in your place if someone as valuable as you ever needs to take a break."
"Many mail harpies tried doing my routes before me. Most couldn't handle the flight and needed to be rescued. Some are still hurt from it." She replied, her expression turning grim.
"I see. Sorry to hear that." You said, reeling a little from the sudden shift in her tone. "Well, if you need anythi-"
"Don't be sorry! Againstcompanypolicy!" She smiled. "Sorrygottago, thank-you and-!"
"Eulia." You stopped her, taking out some dry towels. "Stay a while, won't you? Maybe take a warm shower and have a proper meal. You look terrible."
