[DADAN-MANG] "Gee... Ya' really are deadset on makin me turn over a new leaf..."
[YAOZHI] "Mmm, I don't like it! Don't like it a butt!"
[DADAN-MANG] "Bit."
[YAOZHI] "I- .... .... ...." Yaozhi squinted at Dàdǎn-Mang for a second; "-I don't see you getting with us like that! Not at all! I mean, you're some goody two shoes. Ain'tcha? Dàdǎn-Mang's a thief, and once a thief, always a thief!"
[DADAN-MANG] "Ahemhemehm. Yeah! How you gonna reconcile me being an UNAPOLOGETIC BURGLARIZER with being a pure cinnamon bun like you then?! Cuz' I know, sooner or later, someday, yer' probably gonna ask me to stop. Period! And I just can't do that."
Dàdǎn-Mang clenched his fists and raised them to the air.
[DADAN-MANG] "SOME day, the rich will run outta money cause I'll steal it all from them. Then all the poor people you'd rather me give the money of rich folks will be the new rich ones. And what's gonna happen then? Hmmm? I'll tell ya what, I'm gonna go right back to stealing from them, cause now they're not so innocent, are they? Yer talkin' a big game, but I just don't see it. How do I be a "good" thief? I can't stop stealing! It's all I got!"
I hate to admit being taken off guard by some... curveball like this one he's throwing me, that you'd think I'd be prepared for, but he's got a point... that there comes a point in which it all unravels. I do admit, a "good thief" sounds like a silly, absurd idea. People hate thievery. People wish to punish thievery by death. But at the same time, people don't want to get rid of thievery, because people still commit it when they can, when they know they can get away with it.
If Dàdǎn-Mang is the demigod of being an outlaw, a dirty thieving scoundrel, then like us gods, he's taken on the whole archetype of 'theft' and 'breaking the law' to begin with, from our Collective Unconsciousness... He's given his shoulders a heavy weight he can only bear when he's doing just that. Stealing, and breaking the law. Setting him loose on the Trinity isn't sustainable, because it's my hope that, one day, there is no Trinity.
So how do I tell him how to reconcile being a thief who must steal with being a better person? A good guy?
