Quoted By:
In order to defend against any significant assault that the Toprocravic tribe may launch, the leaders of the Protavic people decide to muster a third of the tribe's able-bodied men and women, who shall watch over the border and be prepared to fight against any invaders. Once all of the blood-drinkers have returned from their expeditions, they shall launch an attack on the territory of the sealskins with the aid of these warriors.
Once these plans have been made, they are put into action. A messenger is sent to the stone men, to inform them of our tribe's intentions. The tribe's most eager and loyal warriors are called upon to defend the border and remain vigilant. After that, there is nothing left for the tribe to do other than wait for the return of the Vuvovic.
Time passes.
Over three hundred and fifty men and women have abandoned their usual tasks in order to guard the border. They do not contribute anything to the tribe during this period, yet they still need to be fed, clothed, sheltered and armed. While the tribe isn't crippled by this burden, it does make life harder for the Protavic people.
>The civilisation gets -10 Prosperity and Productivity.
The envoy that was sent to the Rodac returns in a timely fashion, with a simple response – the stone men acknowledge the intentions of the beast-bringers and they shall not attempt to obstruct our tribe's conquest of sealskin territory. They wish the Protavic good fortune, but they will not them in the coming conflict. This is to be expected – they had strong ties with the Toprocravic people until they were forced to make a decision.
A month later, the Bodravic finally make up their minds – they will continue trading with the sealskins, even if it means an end to their friendship with our tribe. The wood-burners stop visiting the beast-bringers and in return, the Protavic people stop sending traders to their territory. It is unfortunate, but their minds cannot be changed now.
>The civilisation gets -5 Prosperity.
Less than a week after the leaders of our tribe receive this message, it happens.
On a drizzly spring morning, not longer after dawn, a few tribesmen along the northernmost shore spot a swarm of shapes drifting across the surface of the Croglatol. As they draw closer to the lakeside, it becomes clear what they are – sealskin raiders rowing across the lake in their canoes, armed with bows and cudgels, intent on pillaging the lands of the beast-bringers. There must be over a hundred of them, perhaps even two hundred.
Those who were fortunate enough to spot these marauders run back to their villages to sound the alarm. Many of the tribesmen prepare to flee with their belongings, while others arm themselves and prepare to defend their homes from these opportunists.
