>Ask to speak with Sammie.
The wolf-girl mulls over the situation, slumping back in her chair. Then she realizes that there’s only one real option, if she truly wanted to call herself a pack-leader.
“packmates cheer each other up when they’re sad…”
“Sorry, what was that, dear?”
Clover’s eyes flash with determination as she sits up straight. “L-let me speak to her! Please!”

The woman seems to consider it for a moment, then sighs. “I’m sorry, dear. I think it’s probably better to just let her rest. Besides, hasn’t she been out with you and your other friends all day already?”
Clover clams up. “O-oh, r-right…”
“Anyway, thank you so much for calling. It’s good to know my little Samantha has friends that care about her. I’ll be sure to let her know you called,” the woman pauses a moment, probably looking at the contact name, “Clover!”
The wolf-girl looks down. “Okay…”
“Take care!”
The call hangs up. Clover lets her hand drop from her ear, and holds her cellphone in her lap. That girl might not officially be in the pack anymore, but... if Clover couldn’t even look out for her packmates when they needed help, was she really even…?
A small mug thunks on the table in front of her. Clover looks up.
“Here, have some tea.” Melissa leans against the table, looking at Clover with a small, but comforting smile. “I managed to find my old kettle in the cupboard back there. I don’t know how much you like bitterness, though, so there are some sugar packets as well.”
Clover looks at the cup and the small mound of sugar packets beside it. “Thanks, Holm-Holm.”
The former detective scratches at the back of her neck sheepishly, looking away. “Don’t mention it.” She stands back up, and goes back to sit in her chair. She begins spinning slowly once more. “Anyway, from what I heard, it sounds like the call didn’t really work out. That’s alright. We can always try again tomorrow. Either way, I think we’ve got a pretty good working theory.” The chair circles around to face the wolf-girl once more. The girl gives another small smile. “So, we can call it for the night. After you finish your tea, you should head home. Your brother will probably be worried.”
She hadn’t drunken any of the tea yet, but she was already feeling a bit better. Clover sets her tail to begin slowly wagging. “Thank you, Holm-Holm, really!” The wolf-girl grabs the cup, then tilts her head. “Do you have a place to stay, though? If you want, you can come back and crash at the wolf den!”
Melissa laughs a little. “I appreciate the offer, but I’ll be fine, really. I’ll lock up here, then I’ll…” The girl trails off. Her wolf-ears twitch, under her hat. She stares down at the desk, her voice soft. “I don’t really sleep much anymore, anyway.”
Clover blinks.
>…huh?
