Sprung on him as a teasing joke from his peers, the hearty and loud-spoken Hugh was nicknamed "Hugh Mann," a cheeky comment intended to demean his more Human-like behavior (often seen as uncivilized by Listener highborn). Though his advisors heavily discouraged the adoption of such a name, Ser Hugh interpreted it as Ser Hugh The Mann, a proclamation of his great masculinity! Whisper bless his fungal heart.
