You are flabbergasted at Jacques counter stare. You take the stark white with a light blue snowflake emblem card reading:Jacques SCHNEE; right underneath Chairman & Chief Executive Officer; contact information can be seen in the corners.
“Take good care of that, I don’t give my card to just anyone.” Jacques' earlier cold stare melted in an instant, replaced by a welcoming face.
“Have you come here just to aggravate us? Can’t we have just one party?” James sharply says.
“Well I was having a lovely evening with the fine people of Vacuo but you had to ruin it by scheming to put more unfair taxes on the people, by the Brothers, you are even conspiring with your unelected colleagues to institute it Remnant-wide!” Jacques is purposefully loud.
Some bystanders voice their discontent. “What is this?”
“Why should we pay to fix the mistakes of huntsmen who are too weak to protect themselves?”
“How expensive is a prosthetic? They should use that Lien in healthcare!”
“I’m not paying taxes.”
“Wait, is that Theodore? Is he on board with this ploy?”
More and more people complain, in turn, making themselves angrier as the facts of the proposal get perverted and more macabre. You even spot Gillian talking about ‘dirty outsiders’.
“Since when do you care so much about taxes? You could pay for the entire population of Mantle without losing more Lien than a rounding error!” Ironwood’s granite expression goes nuclear. You feel this is a common occurrence between the two.
“Since he figured out Vacuans dislike taxes.” Theo looks ready to walk over there and punch Jacques, but he restrains himself with great difficulty.
“First off, I do care about taxes, I mean, I pay the most out of anyone in the four Kingdoms! And I pay my proper dues as anyone can see the Schnee Dust Company’s revenue and notice any discrepancies, unlike other entities, I don’t use money for other needs.” The jab at the academies and headmasters isn’t subtle. “Second, I pay my dues because I believe our leaders have our best interests in mind, but some folk here have raised some pretty solid points about secret, exorbitant spending.” Some in the crowd cheer. “Third, this is just a transparent attempt to give huntsmen more power over the common man!”
