We decide to ignore the harpies for now!
We spend the year studying the giant crabs.
Crabs are a bit dumb. You could maybe teach them one trick, if you reinforce the training daily for a long time.
But you could raise them as livestock just fine.
The ones you have are pretty small, molting often. You believe that to reach full size they would take several decades.
Maybe you could raise them to be mounts, but expect at least 30 years before you get the first crab that is big enough. We could build a crab stable for that!

At the base of the mountain, there seems to be a small village of wooden shacks! A few dozen young women live there. The settlement has lots and lots of small trees. You don't see any men.
