Your name is Kondo Tatsuya, and you’re an amateur football player that has dreams of going pro and perhaps even further. Well, maybe. Problem is, you don’t exactly know where that story starts.
At the National High School Soccer Championship, in the Saitama Prefectural Finals, you remember as the game was nearing it’s final minutes and you were one-nil down to the opposing side: MATSUKAZE KOKOU. All of a sudden though, a breakthrough happened, your teams midfielders had broken past the enemy’s and the ball was swiftly passed to YOU. You had dribbled past one defender, then the next and then finally, you were one on one with the opposing side’s goalkeeper. His eyes wide and his arms stretched out wide.
You could feel it in your bones as you raised your left leg up for a direct shot in the top right corner of the net, that this was the correct move. This would send you to nationals, where you could prove your worth on a bigger stage than any other. The goalkeeper had already made his move. rushing towards you in the hopes that he could stop your shot before you could make it yourself.
Suddenly, a teammate was on your right, his right arm stretched outward as he was signalling to you what he wanted to do himself.
“Tatsuya!! I’m wide open!!”
!?
Your brain stopped in that moment as you kicked it over to the other striker on your team, his eyes similarly growing wide as he slammed the ball home with all his strength…
To the crossbar.
A metallic clang rang out onto the field as the other side’s defenders scooped up the ball for themselves, passed it quickly between the midfielders which had then gifted a golden opportunity to their own strikers.
One they didn’t miss. All over in less than 30 seconds.
