Now was the perfect time to kill the man, Lucian noted, for he was in the complete darkness against a warrior who was far more armored than he. If the Knight really wanted to try he could have injured or killed the fool within an instant flick of his blade. If he had done that the troubles would have been it.
Yet he did not, so he held his tongue.
“I came in because I wanted to save you.” Lucian said simply as he revealed himself fully from the darkness, “Here you ran away from the formation and almost got yourself killed by a horde of ratmen falling upon us. If you failed to kill that witch earlier you would have died in vain.”
“You really going to give me that?” The Imperial barked with what sounded like anger and ruin within his voice, “Things have been odd since we’ve gotten down here. Neither you nor the Dwarf seemed rather surprised that there were tunnels running close to that well. You wanting to kill the verminlord who lives here, I know Bretonnians look for glory but that wasn’t your excuse.”
“I wanted to kill him, make sure the bastard didn’t get away while we were tearing down his empire.” Lucian fired back with haphazard rebuttle, “His threat would still be around if he was alive.”
“No, thats not the main reason.” The Imperial pushed in, “A Dwarf would not have given up an idea he got so quickly just because someone suggests something else. Frankly I liked that plan too, but you’re looking for something. Just like me.”
Lucian felt his blood flare as the man realized the truth of the matter. It was an oppressive heat that plagued throughout Lucian’s life when he was caught doing something stupid or had to fess up to something. He didn’t trust him, that much was clear.
“We need to get out of here, together.” The Imperial said as Lucian saw sparks coming from in front of him. The silhouette of the Imperial shinning for just a moment as he managed to produce fire, “You have a torch or something we can light?”
“Yeah, here it is.” Lucian said as he presented the tip of the fire to the man. There was a couple of sparks coming from his hand before the ragged torch came aflame, “I’ll tell you now, whether you believe me or not, I protected you because that is my duty. You are not my enemy yet, just an Imperial and an odd fellow..”
The fire was shared between the two of them, Wigmar looking Lucian with a harsh glare that would not have been shared between fellows, “So it is, Bretonnian.” The man quickly made his own torch before the two of them began venturing down the tunnels.
