> SELECTED: “I beg forgiveness, your holiness. We lost two good and faithful men on the road through Fallavon. Master Percy of Aubrey to a foul undead monster and Brother Riche of St. Gabriel’s Gate to bandits.” You’ve not committed to memory the name of every humble pilgrim that made it this far, but you remember the names of the ones you failed to protect. This blemish mars your sense of accomplishment. [Idealist] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKWRuFjIRFo&ab_channel=catholictraditions – Pilgrim’s Welcome“I beg forgiveness, your holiness. We lost two good and faithful men on the road through Fallavon.” You sink to your knees at the feet of the Chapter Master, recalling the names of those who perished under your care. “Master Percy of Aubrey to a foul undead monster and Brother Riche of St. Gabriel’s Gate to bandits.”
Master Percy of Aubrey, humble cobbler, fell to the clutches of a Wodenaki on the road to Motte-Fallavon. His untimely demise was avenged in full by yourself and the other knights in escort shortly after. Brother Riche of St. Gabriel’s Gate, member of Reclaimant Sect, slain by a bandit on the road to Port Bounty. His death was not in vain, you can only pray that further pilgrims would find themselves unmolested by banditry on that stretch of the road for the foreseeable future. Perhaps, if you had kept better watch, perhaps instead of pursuing the bandits...
“There is naught to forgive, my son.” You start at the tender touch of the Chapter Master’s hand on your forehead. Looking up, you can see the sorry expression writ plain upon his face.“Every year men and women find their faith calling them on this journey. It is a great tragedy that not all survive the ordeal, but none can say they were ignorant of the risks when they took their first step. You did not abandon them, and that is more than can be said for some. Raise your head high instead, sir knight, and think upon how many more might not have been spared but for your protection.”
“More still had I not had the good brother here by my side.” You nod to Brother Marcel Rousseau behind you, the Knights Comitas steps forward to take a knee at your side. “He has been as steady as a ship’s anchor, one could ask for no more faithful a companion on these troubled roads.”
“Brother Rousseau, I had not expected to see you in the colours of our order again. You have taken the vow of silence, I assume?” Chapter Master Callahan clearly recognises the former knight of House Rousseau. This development does not come as too much of a shock, you were aware that he had been a member of their order many years hence. “I see. I will not ask you what troubles bring you back to us, but I hope there is some small measure of peace to be had from it. Come, come all. The vigil awaits, but first you must rest your weary feet and fill your empty stomachs.”
