The conquered sealskins who dwell on the northern bank of the Choslitol shall become beast-bringers over the course of generations, while the Toprocravic tribe that dwells on the southern bank shall answer to the Protavic henceforth. They shall be allowed to keep their traditions and govern themselves as they please on a day-to-day basis, but they shall ultimately answer to our clan.
Not long after the agreement is made, complications start to reveal themselves. Though the smoke people were conquered long ago, they still remain a significant minority among the Toprocravic. The act of inhaling the fumes produced by burning flowers is an important part of the Procruvic cultural identity, though they unknowingly wreak havoc on their lungs with this bizarre tradition. Many of the sealskins have adopted this habit and suffer the same symptoms.
As for the Toprocravic themselves, they have little choice but to share their connections with the myriad clans of the Choslitol with the Protavic, along with their spoils. From now on, the beast-bringers shall be now able to exploit the bounty of the great river and its peoples. In addition, the sealskins seem to continue the tradition of scholastic singing first devised by their Bruslavic friends in the distant past, as well as the old Toprocravic practice of artistic bone-carving. Combined, these customs grant this tribe means of recording information that may be more sophisticated than those of the Protavic.
However, for better or worse, the beast-bringers will not adopt any of these practices. They have no desire to learn the savage methods of inferior tribes that were unable to resist their supremacy. Instead, the Protavic people are more interested in the subjugation of the northern bank and its traumatised inhabitants, who witnessed the slaughter of their brothers, fathers and sons not so long ago. Right now, these people may be terrified – but in the future, this terror will be replaced by hatred, by a powerful resentment that will undoubtedly hinder the assimilation of this territory.
While our tribe comes to terms with this situation, the fire-worshippers fight a bitter war with the stone men over the territory that was taken from them. While the Rodac remain the closest friends of the Protavic people, they make no effort to ask for aid from our clan – perhaps they consider it unnecessary, or maybe they do not believe that the beast-bringers have the manpower to spare. Whatever the reason, they fight their war on their own.
