>>5170726well, the reasoning as to why i thought of a spear as the main weapon we would use, would've been:
1. it is distinct from the rest of the ducal houses, with a prominence that cannot be overlooked, and even if it is hard to bring around, i thought it might possibly be foldable, such that a nearly round scabbard could be used to hold said spear for when not in use.
2: yes it would give us a weird aura, and while that might come as a detriment, we have already earned ourselves a reputation which wouldn't be described as "well adjusted rolemodel" either, while we would be looked at with distain for such a choice as alot would see it as dishonorable. it likely wouldn't hurt us more than it would benefit us from the gossip which would talk about us.
3: yes, alot of spear types are used mostly when double handed, but, there is after all the choice in making this a sword killer, in the sense of having a tip able to catch a sword, and possibly lock it inside the spear tip. allowing proenza to keep it locked with one hand and shoot with the other. it would be a cheap trick, but it would be deadly against people who have only trained for sword combat.
4: the range of a spear would as well be quite the boon. for while it might mostly be a two handed weapon, the fact that it has much longer range, and therefor striking distance, together with the fact that it is a totally different way of fighting than what most nobles are normally up against, would make it a much bigger beast of a challenge compared to just another sword duel.
6: yes, we would likely still need a sword for if anybody was to wanna duel us equally in a civilized setting, but i do think the spear would mostly be used for actual death fights.
+ 5: a spear can be thrown, i just find that cool and unexpected
though, i will agree, i am not against using a sword either, it would still work perfectly fine, this was just my idea. originally i didn't "want" a spear either, i kept it ambiguous, to let newbQM choose for himself what he wanted iron to make. i just mentioned a spear as my personal thought at the time, and gave an example because the ramming part was kind of stuck in my thought pattern at the time.
i do think marc training us could definitely work, but it would also not be on par with the other nobles, who have had large parts of their lives to train sword combat, learn the different strategies and train the muscle reflexed needed for close quaters. alot of time which we most likely don't want to use since it can be 6 hours of training a day, for up to 5 months just to be able to defend ourselves, much less win a fight against anther noble.
i get where you are coming from, and im sorry if i have at any point sounded dismissive. i get ya, and i in fact fully understand that a spear has alot of downsides as well. i just think it would overall work better.
but otherwise thank you anon for yer input, i hadn't even thought about some of those things until i began writing.
