Elves are a nigh-extinct species and mankind/the church took on the role of protecting what remains of their races (alongside the dwarves but they, unfortunately, are on the way out due to having a lifespan). There's also a treaty with the Demon Lord in place to not harm either race. Elves draw attention, especially in villages. Anyone who'd try to harm you (assume you escape and your parents don't murder them) is going to be in serious legal shit.
That kind of treatment can bring plenty of problems.
