You're just about ready to leave these two nitwits be. You have had enough of the people in this facility. Is there lead in the fucking water here? Does working with anomalies just make you a weirdo?
It says a lot that, out of your coworkers, there are only two you'd consider 'normal' and one's a melting pile of flesh. You grit your teeth, taking in a long deep breath. Okay. You can survive one more conversation, Vincent. Just one more.
"I think I actually recognize you two. Edward Trin and Moxxie..." You snap your fingers, trying to recall what her last name was. "'Redacted', apparently? Am I right?"
"Correcto, my good man." Edward gives up a thumbs up. "It's actually 'Trinity' but they shortened it for paperwork reasons or something. Not really in my pay grade to ask."
"My surname is something that should not be given freely to those who do not deserve it." Mox messes with her mask again, making sure it stays on her face. A nervous tic, maybe?
"Great. Funnily enough, I actually got some anomalies you captured in my lab. Two of them. I'd like to ask you two if you have any additional info about them."
Mox squints, as if you told her to remember something that happened centuries ago. "We require clarification about which anomalous entities or phenomena you are referring to."
Oh, right, they probably capture a lot of anomalies. "NOWHERE'S SOMMELIER and LOST SINCE 199X. One's a wine-producing robot, the other is this tall mangled dude."
"Ahhh. Yeah, yeah, fuck 199X." Edward takes another deep swig from his bottle of rotgut. A low, pained groan oozes out of his throat as his body actively rejects the rotgut. "Do you know how hard it is capturing something that keeps fucking with your maps?"
"That's not the worst part, even! Okay, so I can't tell you a lot about what's goin' on in that thing's mind. It didn't respond to any of my questions, but...I have a theory. I think that mangled mess is only half of the anomaly."
"Huh?"
"Okay, so, in any other context I would've thought it was the dark playing tricks on me." Edward sits up straight. He puts his bottle down as he locks his eyes on you. "We were hunting it down, following the black bile it was leaking out of its wounds."
"The forest was pitch black. Not a speck of light could pierce through the treetops. We had to rely on some shitty flashlights and, well, the dark messes with you. Makes you see things."
"We saw another figure, dancing in the shadows, trying to lure away from our target." He sounds unsure as he recounts what he saw. "Some weird, amorphous thing that blended in with the shadows. We didn't engage with it since, course, we had another anomaly to deal with."
"But, it was watching us. It followed us, just like we were following 199X. We then dealt with 199X and stuffed him in a big fuck off black box."
Edward is about to reach for the bottle again but he stops himself. "That got the figure real cross, though, that we took its friend away."
