>>5351899Okay, so you kind of suck with weapons, but that isn’t going to stop you from trying out a freaking sword!
And who better to try a sword out with than the one guy who can probably use the sword well and won’t intentionally try to make sashimi out of you?
You find Matt still with Valjean, still discussing whether or not the sword will work more like a bat or a knive, and, when you propose the idea of a spar with Matt, you get odd looks from both the guys, as if you’d said something completely outlandish.
Still, you know Matt won’t refuse a spar against you because, deep down, he wants to know how strong the swords are just as much as you do.
“You don’t even need a weapon.” Valjean points out the obvious.
“Well, do you wanna be the guy who test-runs Fire Aspect and Sharpness I on themselves?” Matt asks to the air, and Valjean doesn’t answer. “No? Didn’t think so either.”
“Spar with me after, midget. You'll get a real fight.” Valjean says before taking his leave, one of his own swords in tow.
“You sure you wanna do this?” While Matt won’t be malicious, you know he won’t go easy on you whatsoever.
“It’s no big deal– I’ll regenerate it all back anyways!” You wave him off. A little blood spilled on your part will hurt no one, except for you. Probably.
“‘S not that. I thought hand-to-hand combat was more of your forte.” Matt says. “You're way, way better than me at it anyhow at this point, and you know how they say ‘if it’s not broken, don’t fix it?’”
True as that might be, you already asked to spar. Even if you lose miserably (which is a given with your skill with weapons), you’ll at least get a good idea about how well the sword will fare against stronger mutants like yourself. Plus, there’s no way you're backing out of it now.
