A cunning design in the cavernous roof of the Crescent Palace, and even a mirror at certain points in the day, ensures that the Kirin’s pen is kept entirely saturated by sunlight despite its location indoors. This seems most agreeable to the creature, who is content to bask on the stone plinth and soak up the sunlight to the point where you could swear it’s mane actually throbs and pulses with energy. Occasionally, when it has had its full, the graceful quadruped will flit around the edges of its pen wistfully, as if burning with the earnest desire to gallop with the sunbeams. It is the only sign of agitation you see from the serene animal, and the sunlight it has coated itself in self-evidently glows long after the great halls of the Imperial Menagerie darken with the setting of the sun.
Later that evening upon learning of your posting the normally reclusive Chimchala joins you for a game of Princeps. The game is friendly despite the language barrier, albeit quiet, and without wager. Through a roundabout translation via Sir Ibram and Antoninus, the Azir cataphract tells you that this position outside the Kirin’s enclosure is considered a particularly lucky one. The man seems to think you should consider yourself blessed to have been posted there on your first day, and listens to your translated report of the creature’s wellbeing intently.
