However pleasant the conversation was, it seemed more bad luck was on the way, imminently. Summers gasped as she saw a larger pack of Samurai colluding with Wei ahead, coming right their way. Everyone was put on the edge then and there.
"HALT."
The pack of Ashigaru and Wei Shen Wu were headed by an Umamawari class Retainer and a Commissar of the Wei's Shen Ce class. The Retainer stepped up to her, and her body seemed to instinctively stiffen.
"Light infantry unit, state parameters." Came the Commissar, seemingly in charge due to outranking an Umamawari.
"...U-.... uh..."
The Commissar and Retainer both narrowed their gaze. Immediately, she gave them one of the worst responses. No Ashigaru ever hesitated to present an answer. For anything.
"Escorting these civilians, my superior!" She bellowed out.
The Retainer stepped forward. It was a Retainer's duty to keep the Ashigaru in line and disciplined. His gauntlet clad backhand collided with her cheek.
"INSOLENCE! THERE IS NO STANDING PARAMETERS TO ENGAGE IN DIRECT CONDUCT WITH DENIZEN LIFEFORMS! STATE FORGIVENESS!"
"F.... FORGIVE ME, SUPERIOR! I HAVE FAILED!" Summers blurted out. This was standard behavior among the Samurai. Nobility and honor could not be stained by ignorance, and the slap was the most common way to showcase the superiority of a greater rank.
"WHAT IS YOUR REASON FOR ENGAGING IN DIRECT CONDUCT WITH DENIZEN LIFEFORMS!?"
"MY SUPERIOR, I RESCUED THESE BEINGS FROM A LANDSLIDE AND THEY HAVE REQUESTED SAFE GUIDANCE BACK TO THEIR ORIGIN POINT. SOUTHERN SECTOR TWO. RESIDENCE: THE VILLAGE OF MAO YING, THE VILLAGE OF CATS!" She got out, nervously and panicked. If she had a heart, it would be beating in her chest hard about now.
"Mm... This unit appears to be suffering a form of malfunction." The Commissar says, his jian sword coming up and lifting her chin; "Even stranger, this model is a specific to denizen conduct and operating outside its usual station. This is much too far from a commune. I recommend this unit be examined and repaired."
The Retainer nodded, adding; "LIGHT INFANTRY UNIT, DISREGARD CURRENT PARAMETERS. JOIN THIS SQUAD AND FOLLOW SHEN CE SUPERIOR NOW. STRANDED UNITS WASHED UP ALONG THE SHORES REQUIRE ASSISTANCE. AFTERWARDS... YOU WILL UNDERGO DIAGNOSTICS!"
She couldn't just abandon them all... Catastrovania looked ready to fight right away. She had this expression of fury written across her face, having witnessed that cold, heartless slap Summers received... But fighting would only bring them unwanted trouble! There has to be a way out of this!
