They continued, soon taking positions near a door. A moment where they might have been attacked as L3KT handed off the Omnispex to a Skitarii. Lorch was well aware of that possibility but he felt a moment’s laugh crossing his lips.
The atmosphere has been slowly but surely changing. It seemed the atmosphere was no longer rich in oxygen but instead of nitrogen and carbon. Just another of the many attempts the AI committed in an attempt to slow them down from their objective.
As they waited Lorch felt a series of locations urged to him, with a quick pulling of his Volkite another of the AI’s drones were shot down. After he did that the Astartes realized that he did not feel where that Machine was. He was told by the Skitarii where the target was. It felt weird but it was faster than even the binary as he understood completely where the target was.
Very interesting. But for now the Astartes noted that the AI had in fact attempted another test in infiltration. If it was still testing then that meant now was not the time it wanted to strike. It was obvious to the veteran of many battles what was about to occur.
“Once the door opens and we enter, prepare.” He called out as he was completely sure the AI was listening into their communication now.
Five seconds after he spoke the door to the chamber opened, the subtle hum of a power supply coming into the ears of the Astartes as he also saw the faint glow. Any movement that they made now would set their positions, so he slowly made a movement while attempting that subtle communication with the Skitarii around him. To his surprise they did exact as he was thinking, somehow decoding the thought through whatever sorcery the Noosphere was.
When they were slowly moving their way into the hall that it happened.
All around him a series of alarms began to blare with a deafening sound that Lorch was sure would have injured normal humans. He felt the connection with the Skitarii begin to light up numerous hostiles on both sides as one of Lorch’s battlebrothers was still standing out in the hallway.
With a leap Lorch brought his chainsword forward as numerous las shots were sent into the armor of the Astartes standing before him. As his battle brother sent shots out against the now emerging turrets Lorch flung the Astartes into the hallway on top of two Skitarii who could not get out of the way in time. In the next second Lorch was looking upon metal claws that he quickly parried and impaled with his sword.
As this happened he could hear the fighting coming from the front as the two Astartes were now taking so much lasfire you would have thought twenty men of the Imperial Army were shooting upon them.
“HOLD POSITION AND FIGHT! AMBUSH!” Shouted the Captain as he parried another robot.
