Qiao wipes what’s left of her tears. “We’ll be waiting at the elevator! Guard come with me!” Qiao starts walking again with ill-fitting confidence. “You too, detective! We’ll discuss your payment!”
“Y-Yes!” Ms. Fiora follows suit.
“Roger that.” Ihor walks with them, not before giving you a look and nodding – acknowledging something you aren’t quite sure about. Did he thank you? Or was he happy for you? You’ll never know.
“The stretcher is ready!” Ms. van Zullekom lays one out next to Jonathan. “Please, help me out with Kobashi!”
“R-Right.” Marcela ended up staying to help.
You three work together to move Jonathan onto the stretcher. Marcela and Ms. van Zullekom demanded to be the ones carrying him away on it.
“Poor Jonathan…” You’d feel worse, but he’s snoring too loudly for you to take this seriously.
“I believe Kobashi doesn’t like being called by his first name.” Ms. van Zullekom doesn’t want to be impolite but felt inclined to point this out.
“I thought it was just ‘Johnny’.” You don’t know what the problem is really. It’s a cute name… But now you’re tempted to call him like that just to see his reaction!
“Is it? Apologies! I’m so out of focus, I misremember!” Ms. van Zullekom almost dropped Jonathan from the surprise.
“You’re so out of focus you almost broke his skull, Nessa.” Marcela thinks they should swap sides. “C’mon! I’m r-really freezing here!”
“Apologies! But there’s one more thing I must say before we go.” Ms. van Zullekom turns to you. “You went through a lot Ms. Oka, but I’m ecstatic that you managed to find courage in this adversity and saved my dear friend’s life. Thank you!”
“I-I-I didn’t do much… If anything, I just returned the favor.” It’s your fault everything happened.
“Take the compliment, Shiny. ‘Sides, isn’t it better when everyone helps each other?” Marcela smiles from ear to ear. It’s quite comforting.
“Y-Yeah.” You’re glad you weren’t alone…
“But yeah, you two wannabe heroes, thanks!” Marcela means it!
