They left the dust with the fury of gunshots, as there was no other way for them to welcome the Greenskin. Orks were barreling with and by their sides, UZ1 making sure they were the first to die so that retaliation would be delayed by just that little bit more.
It was then that she registered the structure that was before them. She could not help but blink for a moment as she started at the stupidity of the structure.
The original design of the city had a massive crystalline drop gate that was maintained with some sort of weird sorcery that kept it up. What she was looking upon was no longer a massive masterpiece but instead a haphazard creation that could only have been made from the mind of an Ork.
First, the drop down gate was no longer held upright but was instead jagged at an angle. Likely when the Orks first attacked this place the gate had fallen, but through mishap became jammed into the surrounding walls. This caused it to be still lifted but also the top was high enough to allow Orks to safely drop down into the battle below.
How the Orks got up there, well, a giant ramp of course!
“All heavy weapons target that ramp!” UZ1 declared as she gestured towards the construct.
With their objective made, the Astartes and Knights began pouring their gunfire into the target. While it was still some distance away it was made in such a ramshackle way that it did not take much damage to start bringing it down.
The sounds of metal cracking under the pressure of a thousand Orks still running across it being shot was the first sign that they were having some effect. Of course by declaring their existence via Heavy Weapons fire the Orks had begun changing direction to charge them but it was not enough to save their lives.
The ramp, massive in its creation, buckled.
Just like the destruction that was caused before the falling of the platform caused an immense amount of smoke to run across the city. All around them instinctively covered their eyes as the massive cloud of dust covered them.
But the job was done, and within a minute of the Orkish tide drying up the broken gate that was keeping out the Mechanicum had several pieces of itself shatter and crumble. As UZ1 regained her sight she watched as millions of Skitarii began spilling from the recently opened wound and the true slaughter of the Orks began. The city and thus the planet were won.
