“It’s new lore! Would it kill you to believe me outright?!” Vera gets exasperated for some reason.
“Yeah, mine is not Zeus...” Bray is very disappointed.
“But how do you know that she has that flame in particular?” You wonder.
“Well, uh, my flame was stalking hers before joining forces with me.” Bray doesn’t sound very proud.
“<span class="mu-i">Ew.</span>” The rat is disgusted at the garbage man.
“You said I got us all into trouble because I have human decency and helped a damsel in distress. Why?” You feel like this is bigger than the worst attempt at flirting ever.
“My cousin. He helped me set up this plan with the condition that we would use Primavera’s power for something important he needs. And as long as we get that done, Primavera will be fine.” Bray is trying to play peacemaker. “Look, he’s an influential man, the one with the contacts with the evildoers who kidnapped those precious legs. And if he doesn’t get what he wants, he gets… pushy. Do you understand?”
“You’re full of it, liar.” Vera doesn’t buy it. “This plan is way too ridiculous for anyone with more than two brain cells to agree to.”
“With some goodwill earned, you get to move some pieces on the board every now and then.” Bray doesn’t think this is a stretch. “Fine, it was a setup to take down the guy who kidnapped you! He ruffled some feathers with the wrong people, so some nasty men — who may or may not work with my cousin— prepared an ambush, but something went wrong along the way or else neither of you would be here.
