(Lost item: Superb Food)
Taking out the wrapped up shawarma I had, I extended my hand from my cloak at him. He stared at me blankly, and tapped the side of his bowl with his finger. Cautiously, I came closer and dropped the food inside his bowl, taking a step back as he looked down at it.
[???] "Ahh... so you decide to be a philanthropist after all. Very well."
The man raised his free hand in front of his face and bowed his wet head. He muttered something at me. A blessing perhaps.
Suddenly, I felt luck coming my way. It was unnatural.
'So you're the god I smelled here.'
[KEI] "Smelled is a bit rude."
'Oh. Sorry.'
[KEI] "Pay it no mind, I'm just pulling your leg. I know exactly what I am."
He raised his head and I could see his face now. A man who looked neither young or old. He was scruffy, and poor, but otherwise normal. It's just that he was a homeless. He had nothing to his name besides the clothes on his back, his bowl and walking stick.
[KEI] "My name is Kei. I am a binbōgami."
'Pinbōgami?'
[KEI] "A kami of poverty. I was brought to life by the animistic practices that the old Yongesians once held. Death releases Kegare on the world, every time someone dies. In other places of this world, it gave rise to Demons. Here in Yongesia, rituals were used to shunt it away somewhere else."
'And that became you?'
He nods.
[KEI] "But I am not a Demon, even though my birth was similar to one. Instead, the different beliefs humans put into me changed the way I work. Instead of a Demon, I am a kami. I collect their poverty, so they don't experience it. Not to say however, I'm just meant to be here. I bring poverty to mortals where I go. To prevent poverty from affecting them, they donate things to me. Mostly food. Although, I always end up losing everything that isn't food they give me eventually due to the misfortune in Kegare that forms me."
'What you did just now, after I donated something to you...'
[KEI] "That was an imparting prayer for luck. Unlike Demons, I am able to make luck come to those who please me. They have to do something to please me first, however. I cannot make luck appear any other way."
'So you're like Seannsa, then.'
[KEI] "Hmm... I've heard of her, but I've never met her. I was always curious though... but from what I know, her ability to manipulate luck is much greater than mine."
'She can do it at will, whenever she wants. Whether she's feeling nice or not, unlike you.'
[KEI] "I thought so. Still, my luck is useful for when you receive it. You'll see."
