It is decided that all living things harbour a sacred essence. When the body of a dead man is interred in the earth, his essence dwells within the soil until a seed is planted in it. It is then given to that seed, which grows into a shrub. When the plant is eaten by a beast, that essence dwells within it until it is consumed or produces offspring, which may inherit the mystical energy known as Drocrom – the light of the land. Through an endless cycle of consumption, it passes on from one entity to the next.
These teachings quickly spread throughout the Protavic and lead to a few interesting developments. Human corpses are disposed of via burial, though the tribe makes a ritual out of planting sacred flowers in the soil where the dead lie. It is believed that these flowers take the Drocrom of the departed and then pass it on to the bees that gather pollen from them, who return it to the Protavic people in the form of blessed honey.
Food becomes an even more important part of the tribe's culture. Everything that they eat must be prepared according to rituals of cleansing, in order to rid the Drocrom of any impurities. This process leads to improved food hygiene among the Protavic. In addition to this, they take great pride in their feasts and every family strives to outdo the others when it comes to the quantity and quality of food that they produce.
A generation passes.
The Bravigrovic tribe remains hostile towards the Protavic. Some of the families still offer tribute to the woman-snatchers, fearing that they might attack if the tribe stops supplying them with pork and honey. Unfortunately, this doesn't do anything to stop all of the kidnapping and theft.
In fact, one day, a handful of woman-snatchers turn up to deliver an ultimatum. If the Protavic wish for these incidents to end, they will need to regularly offer women to the Bravigrovic on top of the usual tribute. One from every family, every year. If the Protavic cannot agree to this, then they will suffer dire consequences.
The tribe could agree to their demands. This will likely cripple the growth of the tribe, but at least it will repair the tribe's relationship with the Bravigrovic.
The tribe could surrender the descendants of the Pragradravic. Over a hundred people will be given to the woman-snatchers, but at least the growth of the tribe won't be impeded.
The tribe could greatly increase the amount of tribute. It's clear that the Bravigrovic are no longer satisfied with gifts, but maybe that's because they're not being given enough.
The tribe could refuse to pander to them. It's time for the practice of offering tribute to come to an end. The Protavic will just have to deal with the consequences.
