You weren’t in the mood to wait and see what exactly she had in store for you. Instead, you decided to completely encase her in webbing. Which was, if you were being entirely honest, easier said than done. Whenever you were starting to pile it on, she would start burning and slicing at it. And there was another thing. Somehow, your aim felt…off tonight. At random intervals, you would miss some of your weblines and web-shots. It was simultaneously humbling and baffling to you, because…well, you never really miss that often anymore. It’s not a humble brag or a flex. It’s just a fact. You’ve always been a good shot, but that spider bite seemed to take it to 11.
At some point, you had to accept that Mary was somehow throwing you off your game. It honestly felt like she was curving them in mid-air, which was impressive in its own right, considering how your webs had a travel speed comparable to a bullet. All of this, of course, made it that much harder to accomplish your plan, but it wasn’t impossible.
First, you decided that getting closer to her would give her far less room to work with when it came to deflecting your webs. And you were right. She seemed to struggle a lot more when you brought yourself within range of her fire and swords, which…admittedly introduced additional wrinkles to your plan. But your ability to lock down her movements seemed to make up for that. She was less proficient at burning the webs off of her feet, keeping her firmly rooted in place as jumped in and out of combat.
You’d bait out her swings, barely avoiding the edge and tip of her swords, and deal as much damage as you could without getting seriously burned or disemboweled in the process. Even if she didn’t show it in her expression, you could tell that Mary was growing increasingly frustrated. Personally, you were impressed that she was still standing at this point. You’d hit her in the head enough times to knock out Tombstone(probably), but she was persistent in her desire to not lose this fight.
Eventually, she staggered, and the walls of flame just sort of…winked out. You and the rest of the spectators were looking around in confusion, until you heard a violent crunching sound from the armored car that Mary had gotten out of.
All of a sudden, hundreds of shards of metal and thick glass flew off of the vehicle like a flock of birds, circling Mary as she rose into the air slightly. You reflexively covered your face and backed away from her, not willing to get eviscerated for your efforts. When the storm of shrapnel had finally subsided, all that was left was a golem of metal and glass shards standing in the middle of the road.
“You sure know how to show a girl a good time.” said Mary, her voice echoing throughout the makeshift suit of armor that she’d hastily constructed. “I haven’t had this much fun in a while!”
