An older specification incorporating heavy multi-component ballistic protection from small-calibre rounds and fragmentation with four plate inserts providing coverage to the sides of the torso, the arms as well as a groin protector. IOTV armour is used frequently in conjunction with XSAPI plate inserts defending against 7.62x51mm tungsten carbide penetrator projectiles. The somewhat cumbersome design and excessive weight of IOTV armour impedes agility and mobility.
