“Don’t rush it. Whatever you decide to do, me and the Morlocks will support you.”
You said.
She tucked her knees close to her chest and leaned away slightly while floating, accidentally shoving her webbed feet in your face in the process. They only narrowly missed your cheek, but you tilted your head to the side just to be safe.
“You’d really do that? You and those sewer guys?”
Iara asked. Her eyes had somehow become larger than they were before. Instead of being inky black orbs, they were more lifelike. More…human-looking. And right now, they were practically sparkling with admiration.
“Of course. In fact, I’ve got a brother that knows a bit about what you’re going through. I think he can show you a thing or two if you’re willing to meet up with him.”
Now her eyes really were sparkling. You were sure of it. Coincidentally, you remembered that Letty mentioned something about Iara being capable of shooting lasers, and you suddenly became very uncomfortable with the idea of having her focus on you so closely.
“You’ve got a brother? What’s he like?”
“Well, he’s a lot like me, just a little less handsome.”
Glass rolled his eyes at that.
“And you’ve got Callisto too. I’m still trying to figure out how we’re going to explain all this to her. I barely understood what happened, and I was here to see it all.”
Joyce nodded her agreement. These past few days have been a very stressful and confusing jumble of events that you were still trying to untangle. And part of you was worried that Callisto would literally try to kill you once she found out what happened to her friend during your mission.
You would just have to face the music when the time came and hope for the best.
“Uh, actually…”
You all looked up at Iara. She was sitting upright again, slowly floating between Glass and Joyce.
“Can I…”
Joyce smiled sheepishly and handed the controller over to her friend. Iara accepted it gingerly, clearly trying very hard not to crush it like an egg. And just like that, the night went on, with Iara learning how to play a fighting game for the first time. She ended up breaking two controllers by accident after she got particularly riled up, but she seemed to get her strength under control after that.
It was a night full of laughter, greasy food and cheesy comedies. And for just a little while, you were truly able to let yourself relax. That is, until Koa came bursting through the door to get you.
“Hey Huntsman, the girls want to talk to you.”
