Quoted By:
Her hair was long, straight, and golden. It appeared to Lucian as if it was fashioned out of the greatest threads of golden fleece from all corners of the world. It flowed from her head like a veil that covered her shoulders and went all the way to her hips. Beauty was made greater by her linen dress, which left everything and nothing to imagination.
On her shoulder was the Raven, the creature placing the golden laurel onto the Lady’s head like a crown. A gift perhaps, or was the Raven simply returning what was given to him by the Lady?
Within the hands of the Lady of the Lake was the Holy Grail. It was a beautiful chalice which defied all words that could be used to match its matchless crafts. Not even the Dwarfs could match to something which held such magnificent and stunning craft. Perhaps it might have been Grungni who fashioned such a creation, Lucian would not know. It held his eyes all the same.
“Lucian of Verac.” The Lady of the Lake words were like sweet wine to his ears, “In the Halls of Karak Kol, you swore to the Questing Vow. Before that in Castle Bastonne you swore two oaths to uphold. We, your Gods, have watched your every step.”
Lucian felt his stomach become tightened with shame for all the errors he had made on the way and the punishments that were inflicted upon him for them. How could he not when he was looking upon his judges?
“You may have stumbled, Lucian, but your penance was witnessed by us. You have rid the world of three great evils who threatened to overtake these misty lands and turn them into the next stronghold of Chaos.” She addressed with a simple smile, “As we accept your penance, that you have fulfilled all parts of the Questing Vow, and that you have killed three monsters who terrorized the people of Albion; we recognize all your oaths as fulfilled.”
The Lady took the Chalice, the Holy Grail, and knelt to the waters. There she filled it halfway with the crystal clear waters of the lake she emerged from. Raising it to her shoulder, Lucian watched as the Raven extended one of its wings to the greatest extent it could. There the Knight witnessed the bones of death. From these bones, the bird took a piece of red flesh and dropped it into the Chalice.
The Lady of the Lake raised the Chalice to the sky, showing to all the gods the singular action she was taking. Then, slowly, she lowered it towards the Peasant Knight.
