The berserker needs no further command; she steps forward and shoves you aside, whereupon she barrels down along the stone corridor. The chorister, blade still struck through her skull, nary has time to respond to the sudden appearance of a new opponent.
Your wall of steel collides with the chorister at full speed, her swords splintering and snapping along the berserker’s plate, and she’s flung from the side of the route and down into the dark chasm below. You peer over the side to see her disappear down into the miasma of black.
You make no time for congratulatory pats on the back. You heft the flamberge back over your shoulder and begin to move forward–the doll rushes ahead of you, out to the dhampir’s side to support her by the arm. Ava staggers beneath the weight of both blades stuck through her and greets you with a weary smile.
“Why is that I’m always getting run through when I fight with you?” She rolls her eyes, almost playfully. “Am I that useful as bait?”
“Yes, well, at least it’s taken care of.” You feel a wash of shame at the sight of her injuries–a result of your own failure to act. “Let’s be on our way. I don’t think we should tarry here.”
“Mmm? Well, I wouldn’t count that chorister out just yet.” The dhampir grimaces as she wrenches a blade from her shoulder. “Look. Over the side. Do you hear it?”
You frown as you glance back over the bridge–deep, in the depths of the chasm, you can pick up just the faintest sound–.. a scuttle and clatter of steel against rock..? You squint–and far, far below, you catch sight of the sword chorister. She scuttles up along the rock face of the path that extends into the black below, each sword that sticks from her body and limbs an anchor into the wall, her movement strange and jerky like a spider.
"What the hell is she?” Emilia scowls.
“A human.” The dhampir’s voice is grim. “I wouldn’t waste any more time here. Let’s hurry. If we make it to the shrine door, she’ll forget about us.”
>Flee along with your party. You needn’t risk any more injuries and the shrine door is in sight.>Attempt to throw one of the blades around you down at the chorister. Try to knock her off.>Write-In.
