“What do you suggest I do then? It’s all messed up now. I told her what to do, and she just… Didn’t listen. Why was that? Because my orders weren't clear? I didn't stress their importance enough?"
Now it was the young man's turn to pause, as he looked deep into his partner's eyes.
"Why did YOU disobey them, Kaus Gammamon? When I told you to release him and let him come for me, you held on and got stabbed. I had a way out of that. But you chose to ignore my orders too."
<span class="mu-s"><span class="mu-b">"I am sorry, Wind. I simply did not want to accept orders that could lead to your injury. I believed in my own ability to handle the situation."</span></span>
"And not in me?"
<span class="mu-s"><span class="mu-b">"I am sorry. I chose to exercise my own judgement. As your partner, and your friend-"</span></span>
He felt a simmering anger as his partner spoke. His own ego had been severely bruised by the day's events, and he was beginning to paint a clear picture of <span class="mu-i">why</span>. It was because his position as a leader wasn't absolute. They had no reason to fear him, and there were little consequences for disobeying, up until he kicked Liza out. He could see it in their eyes then: That fear of going against him, now that he was making it clear that deviancy would not be tolerated.
And anger aside, the idea that he might not be able to pull this off was unbearable. That he could fail here and waste all their effort.
“I just need some trust in what I do. Not just from them, but from you too. If even YOU decide not to listen, how am I going to keep them in line?”
<span class="mu-s"><span class="mu-b">”I understand. Wind... You know my loyalty is to you alone. But if I were to never exercise my own judgement, I would not be able to act to the fullest extent of my capabilities."</span></span>
"You're the only one I can trust to actually listen. To carry out my orders exactly as I need them done. You're supposed to be my partner. I saved you, remember? I lost-"
<span class="mu-s"><span class="mu-b">"I am well aware, and that debt of gratitude will never be forgotten."</span></span>
Kaus Gammamon inhaled deeply, steeling himself to swear once and for all. Before he could say it, however, a blurry shape popped into existence by the door. The creature, having moved through a cloud of electromagnetic flux, found its optical camouflage disrupted for a brief second.
<span class="mu-s"><span class="mu-r">"Damn!"</span></span> The blue beast hissed, as several eyes fell on it in an instant. And then it was off. Twin jet thrusters flared to life as the cloaked Espimon moved towards the exit.
“SHIT! CATCH IT!” Wind screamed, leaping from his chair.
