>>5357587>>5357562>>5357450>>5357398Well, you hadn't anticipated this... you're of half a mind to just sink the ship and let them all drown, so that you can try again with the next ship you find. You did intentionally follow the continental shelf to surface relative close to land after all, so locating another ship or more humans in general shouldn't be too difficult.
Not wanting to waste this opportunity you have though, you see if you can at least get some questions of yours answered, while you have the attention of the humans.
<span class="mu-b">"...how about this then, if you can't understand me..."</span>
Setting the statue on the deck in order to free up a hand, you lunge forward (tipping the ship in the process) to grab one of the humans and pull him close. He struggles and screams of course but cannot hope to overpower you, and in what should be an obvious display you hold him towards the edge in threat of tossing him over.
<span class="mu-b">"Kili'ou'lokane, have you heard of her? KILI'OU'LOKANE! Where is she?!"</span>
<span class="mu-s">"Klada kas sabar!"</span>
<span class="mu-s">"Hyeeet! Pasme hyet!"</span>
You try to speak as plain and clear as you can, but now the humans seem more focused on trying to help their comrade. Though about half the crew simply cower in fear of you, the other half look like they're trying to convince their crew mate not to give up, and eventually several even rush you to try and muscle free the the man you grabbed.
<span class="mu-b">"No? Nothing? What about me, Tanaloa? TANA-LOA! Surely you've heard of... ah, that's something?"</span>
The more you try to observe them, the more baffled and afraid these humans just seem, after a monstrous sea beast stopped their ship and kidnapped one of their own... yet seems able and intent on communicating, talking with them. You sigh at the failing effort of the men to wrestle your prisoner free or even continue to try and attack you with weapons and tools, thinking this all to be a waste of time. And as you'd originally thought, maybe best to just sink the ship and kill them all, and try again later.
But you... only barely notice, blink and you would miss it, a reaction of... recognition? Familiarity? In some of the men. Only a few, but speaking your name loud and as clear as you can, gives them pause. One's eyes go wide and he marks himself in some praying gesture with his hands, another falls to his knees in fearful sobbing. The rest of the men are as confused by this as you are, but being unaware of what you are, just continue their desperate struggle to regain their crewman and their ship- oh wait now it seems they've given up on the man and are just trying to dislodge you from the boat and push you both overboard.
