You sigh, there's no easy way to handle this, but you decide to say that something weird happened to you this morning, but you're not comfortable saying it here.
For the first time, you see her smile. "I knew it! I- I mean I didn't 'know' anything. A hunch, and I don't even know know what you're going to tell me so-"
You tell her to take deep breaths, She does so, and her smile fades back to her usual frown. At least you can tell that this is just her default state of being rather than her being offended by something you said.
She changes the subject to something that makes us less look conspicuous. "We'll get what I wanted to buy, maybe the store will let me recharge my phone here." She dangles a charger with the strangest looking adapter you've ever seen. "I always got my charger on me, it's custom-made, so I have to. A-although if they don't let me I could always go to your place and charge it there. I'd rather not talk anywhere that isn't my room though."
You nod. "So, what did you want to buy."
"A super capacitor- we're here," she says as she opens the door to the familiar convenience store where Sawyer works at. Maybe she prefers buying here because there's less people here, you prefer buying here because they're the only place with the flavor of energy drink you like/
Sawyer waves at the both of you with her usual cheerfulness. Your ability shows she's actually happy and not putting on an act for her job, which is somehow the most surprising thing you've learned today.
"Hello! Didn't realize you two knew each other! What brings you here?"
"A super capacitor," Etsy states.
There's an awkward silence. "Etsy, you just bought one last week, how did you-"
Etsy rubs her arm through the fabric of the hoodie, this isn't the first time they've had this conversation. "I overloaded it."
"But this one was super expensive! Even if it was overloaded, there's a safety measure so it doesn't br-"
"I went beyond that."
"...I'm just worried about you, you know? One day it's going to blow up in your face, and I'll be very sad."
"Sad you lost a customer."
"That too."
Sawyer sighs, leaves her counter and comes back later with what looks like a big battery with two wires attached. She looks at you, and passes you your favorite energy drink. "You can have this one for free, just look over her for me. Loneliness does terrible things to people."
Etsy is a little flustered at that comment, but tries her best to keep her composure. "Can I use one of your electrical outlet? My phone's out of battery."
"Wouldn't you rather spend time with your date than stare at your phone all day?" She opens the side of her counter. "Fine, but it's only because you keep buying expensive things."
