The hidden eyes of the people were all upon Lucian as he walked across the dirt roads that threatened to fill his armor with bits of mud. He was able to keep his footing just fine across the slurry of merck and dirt but it had already made its way up to the Knight’s knees with the amount present.
Adok was not fairing much better for like Lucian he was stuck fighting the mud. The fellow, being as short as he was, was constantly fighting the stuff that was clinging to his legs and which threatened to get into his beard. Most of the times the runesmith resorted to swipes of the hand and stopped every few steps to check his mighty facial hair.
“Agh! May the book hear of my troubles encountered here today!” Bellowed the Dwarf as he gave a cursory glance to Lucian, “You Umgi need to keep your cities cleaner!”
“Indeed they do.” Lucian said as he remembered having to make numerous pits or piles outside of his family’s homestead to take care of these things. He glanced around again with an inquisitive eye, “Things have changed though, not many people outside.”
“Heh, you’re right.” Adok said as he glanced around the area.
These were the same streets that two had taken to meet the peasant girl, who eventually led them to the garden which the ritual took place. He was a forigner to these places, always had been, but he knew that such a situation was very unusual for he had seen the state otherwise.
Instead the people who looked at him were hiding.
“Could be we are scaring them off?” Adok presented with a small shaking of the head, “The difference after all is you and your armor.”
“I… can see that.” The Knight admitted as he shook his head, “But I cannot accept anything else. The weapon we search can easily kill either of us if we are not wearing the armor. If its as foul as Wolfmar thinks it is then its not up to the peasant if they want to fight me upclose.”
“Didn’t that Knight fight you head on though?” The Dwarf pointed out as they stopped halfway in the street.
“He did, but you never know if he was being told to simply cut me down.” Lucian said as he felt a small retching of the heart, “The dead are not simply puppetted, but pulled from the realm of death to fight for the Necromancer. Even the skeletons of the barest bones are still the people who used to inhabit them.”
