>>5378242Dextroamphetamine, commonly known as Dexedrine. The first choice for treating ADHD, and back in the 1970s, it was the first choice for treating the condition of living, breathing communists in Southeast Asia. It was an incredibly powerful stimulant, twice as powerful as the Benzedrine used in WW2. Children were supposed to take about 5 milligrams to treat their ADHD, and soldiers deployed in the Brushfire wars were supposed to take 20mg within 48 hours. That 20mg reportedly was so powerful, that it could maintain "combat readiness" the entire 48 hours. The guidelines were not followed, and the drug made people irritable as it wore off, not including the fact that they had been awhile for 48 hours.
The product was high performance and "body counts" that met the incredibly difficult demands of those back home. With all the drugs and pills, along with lots of combat therapists, soldiers could fight and fight without breaking down. Soldiers were half to a quarter as likely to fall apart in combat, with most of the recreational drug use happening in "rear echelon" units that were staffed with conscripts. All of these things were like band-aids, but once they fell off, the patient bled twice as fast and twice as hard.
That kind of behavior would not be allowed in the "New War Machine", constructed before and after the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars.
Modafinil was not a stimulant, and it had a lot less side effects, while being a temporary solution to sleep issues resulting from working the night shift.

Mason had exactly 441 doses of Modafinil, 100 mg each. He had a 1,000 packets of caffeinated gum, five pieces a pack, at 100 milligrams a piece, cinnamon flavored.
Addicts could be anywhere and anyone, and they could be created easily.

>What happens if the fighting gets really serious and pushes into the late hours?1. The boxes get unlocked, one pack of gum per man. Take a new piece every 4 hours. Second day, another pack.
2. Start with a pack of gum. After the gum is used up....Mason personally oversees the issuing of exactly one pill per man.
3. Pack of gum, as soon as 16 hours have passed, the last piece is not taken and they go straight to the pill. If they have to stack gum on top, they do so.
>What happens if the violence is serious?1. First magazine in the gun is high pressure M855A1, for the event of ambushes. Everything after is M855
2. If the worst lifecycle of a rifle is 2,000 rounds on M855A1, that's at least 5 days of intense, psychotic levels of fighting. If new barrels and bolts can't be brought in 5 days, then the logistics system is so shot the men are likely dead.
3. Men carry M855, but one magazine of M855A1. The mule carries only M855A1. Sporadic fighting will mean that the men will get resupplied, easily, before they dip into the M855. If they use up their loadout quickly and are unloading the mule or asking for resupply, they get nothing but M855A1.
