I wasn’t sure whether to set the quest during HL1 or HL2, but after giving it some thought HL1 is really the only one that works. If the Predators come to Earth once every decade at least then they’d be fully aware of the Combine invasion well before the events of HL2, and I want the preds to be taken by surprise by the appearance of extradimensional monsters. That said, I’m not sure what reason a predator would have to be hunting around Black Mesa. It wasn’t much of a warzone prior to the resonance cascade, to be sure.
