A light had begun to envelop your surroundings. It wasn't like Herta's Holy Light, which gave warmth and healing, or the natural light of the sun; these were too comforting to be compared to what was around you now.
The longer you felt it, the stronger it grew. It was tugging at you, trying to draw you in.
Uneasy feelings swirled in your mind.
The air grew warmer, and heavier, pressing against you in a way that made your breath shallow. The light was so blinding that you couldn't see anything. Not even your own transparent blue form that proved your existence. Only your ghostly senses could detect that you weren't alone.
But then it stopped, with your sight returning. Before you, in this place of unnatural white, something jumped into your vision.
It was a Shade — an evil spirit. An inky blot of darkness that served contrasted to the cold white. And it had just startled you.
Instead of being filled with dread, all you could think of was how jumpscares were a cheap form of horror. You weren't amused by the emotional whiplash this event was giving you...
Yeah jumpscares were always annoying. It was starting to piss you off a little.
"MASTER!" You heard Yumi shout from somewhere. And before you could say something she continued. "It's trying to take over! Channel your mana and help me dispel the evil!"
You did as she asked.
As she was doing this you saw something try to sneak up on you both. Not taking any chances, you punched it away while Yumi finished up chanting.
Whatever it was that she did seemed to have done the trick, as you felt your flesh return to you. The intellectual part of your mind realized that you should feel deeply disturbed by the sensation, but right now the relief of being alive evened it out, so it was more uncomfortable than horrifying.
Needless to say you hadn't felt this while going ghost before, back then your mind simply glossed over it.
But just as soon as things were reaching a crescendo, you were back to what you once were.
You shared a look with Yumi. A worried expression remained on her face.
<span class="mu-i">The fuck was that?</span> You thought to yourself. <span class="mu-i">Was that some ghost shit messing with my head?</span>
Yumi seemed to catch onto your thoughts, and she mouthed a silent "<span class="mu-i">I thought it was a Shade at the heat of the moment, but I don't know what happened</span>".
"Guess you weren't kidding about having ghost powers." Millie said to you.
You were back to being human again and Yumi had been freed from the crystal wand. Speaking of, the wand itself was on the ground. It felt like it was a miracle that it was intact. You pocketed it.
"What was that light show just now?" Maddie approached you curiously.
"It was me turning human again." Was your simple reply.
You honestly weren't in much of a talking mood. It was clear that goodbyes were gonna soon follow, and they did.
"If you see Mary, tell her to come visit!" Maddie said to you.
"Who?" Yumi asked.
"Older sister." Millie continued.
