The spud was the seed to a pikmin, but not a type you've ever seen before.
Pulling as hard as you can, the purples and yourself manage to free the massive pikmin from the ground before it can finally stand on its own power. Just like you thought, it has gigantism like many of the creatures on this planet. The huge Pikmin is a brown color, giving it a more naturalistic look then the other pikmin who are brightly and unnaturally colored. Could this be what the pikmin once were, but later devolved into smaller, more communal creatures? It seems as obedient as the rest of them at least, fighting something like this doesn't seem fun.
With a bit of testing, you find that the pikmin follows your whistle like the others. It's huge, and very strong- capable of lifting many times more weight then any other pikmin. On top of that, it has thicker skin then all the other pikmin, it's more like a potato spud with hard skin and thick flesh, unlike the other pikmin who are more fruit-like with their squishy bodies and "pikmin juice" within.
The massive Pikmin, who you have dubbed the <span class="mu-i"><span class="mu-s">Spudmin</span></span>, joins up with your pikmin army as a unique specimen. As it has no onion, you can't send it away at night, so it will have to stay in your ship's cargo hold. It also counts towards your 100 pikmin limit, meaning you have 99 normal pikmin to work with now; not important on its own, but special for showing you that this indeed is another pikmin that follows the rules the others follow. Because of his large size, this pikmin won't be able to follow you into dungeons, but at the same time it's great strength would allow you to defeat... well, pretty much any of the larger creatures of the planet you have fought so far. It can practically wrestle a bulborb to death!
