The two rangers nod while the infantry look less sure. But as you get up and sprint across the open ground, they follow just the same. Your strike team makes quick ground with no opposition and you split them into two. Three infantry with the two Veterans go one way while you take the two other soldiers around the other side.
You nearly run into a squad of raiders also attempting the same thing, and on open ground, it’s a race to pull the trigger first. You shoot as fast as the repeater goes, putting down all five within seconds. Unfortunately, one with a 9mm sub manages to stitch a line of rounds across the two infantry with you before crumpling to the ground. Stupid bad luck.
You don’t stop and round the side of the hill to discover empty fighting positions. Instead, you hear more gunfire coming from the NVD group of NVD. You continue running and round the bend once again. The remainder of the 80’s are taking cover in an old riverbed, with half of their remaining number dead or incapacitated. The rest are dispatched in quick order before they even know what hit them.
The two veteran rangers poke up from cover and wave to you before trotting over.
Veteran Ranger Ortiz: They hit us hard on the flank, we had no cover out here. We have three dead and my partner has a graze.
It seems your infantry is having a real bad day. Five dead in just this engagement, five dead from the freak animal attack earlier…
[Right, let’s get back to the hill.]
You make a note to bury the bodies and police the ammo once the fight is finished. The Securitrons providing suppressing fire stop when the three of you return and head out to support the other robots. It’s not necessary as the ones you dispatched to handle the incoming vehicles return just a you reach the hill.
Securitron: SIR, ENEMIES HAVE BEEN LIQUIDATED AND THE REMAINDER HAVE RETREATED TO THE SETTLEMENT.
You take Boone and a few members of BTO to survey the damage while the remaining infantry collect your dead. Already, wisps of smoke rise from below the hill you were on just an hour ago. Below you is pure carnage, with multiple vehicles atomized, the sand burned black. Body parts are strewn across the desert and large craters remain from where the Securitrons did what they do best.
Boone: Seem like they’re pulling back into town, numbers unknown. We could level the place..
But that may destroy anything of value within Indian Springs. And you would like to get your hands on the vehicles…but Securitrons are poor at urban combat and you’ve suffered enough causalities.
>-5 infantry
>Let’s level the town and move onto the airbase. I don’t care for going house to house.
>I wanna know where they came from and if there’s more. Plus I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on a set of wheels. Let’s surround the town and move in
