Feeling fed up with your role in this fight, you directed your attention back to the queen and pulled out your resonance amplifier. Before any of the nearby Broodlings could reach you, you swung off the wall and pulled yourself towards the Brood Mother. She attempted to swipe you out of the air with her face tentacles, but you were far too fast for her to pin you down that easily. While she struggled to shake you off of her head, you searched desperately for an ear, or an ear hole, or at least something resembling one.
You were unable to find anything that looked anatomically correct, so you settled for pressing your resonance amplifier behind her chin, where there was a gap in her chitinous armor. And then, you cranked it up to full power and let it rip!
A deafening screech thundered in your ears, reverberating through your bones and causing your whole entire body to shudder uncontrollably. Your hands felt like they would explode from the sheer pressure of trying to hold the sonic weapon steady while it bombarded the Brood Mother at point-blank range.
You couldn’t tell which sound was louder. The canon’s sonic blast or the queen’s screams. Maybe it was the combination of both that was causing your ears to bleed. If it weren’t for your healing factor, you’d definitely be experiencing a permanent loss in hearing after this. Your teeth were chattering so violently that you thought they’d either fall out or explode from the intensity of the vibrations currently rattling your bones to their very core.
The queen’s tentacles groped aimlessly in an attempt to find you, but she didn’t appear to be capable of coordinating her limbs properly. Your sonic attack probably had something to do with that.
After about a minute of this, the sonic cannon made a worrying popping sound, before slowly petering out and leaving you with the deafening roar of your tinnitus in its place.
You groggily swung away from the queen, not wanting to be anywhere near her when she regained her senses. Thick rivulets of blood were pouring from her mouth, and her eyes were tinged a deep shade of red with what you could only guess was a mass of burst blood vessels.
You couldn’t hear anything happening around you, so your spider sense was overcompensating to make up for it. You could feel your firing team unloading what little ammo they had left to mop up the swarm, while Flint swept them away with his massive arms. You could feel Ana and Glass using everything they had at their disposal to peel the Broodlings off of Iara, who was practically drowning in them at this point.
And without needing to hear her cries for help, you turned around at just the right time to see Black Cat frantically waving her arms at you. She held a strange device in her hands, and you thought it safe to assume that it was the other half of the converter that you were after.
