You were able to loosen the bandages covering your arms with ease, but you were having a hard time fully separating them from your body.
The cloth slithered and writhed in response, and before you knew it, every bit of the mummy suit was sliding above your skin, rapidly rearranging its own structure.
You watched in complete horror as…wait.
You blinked in surprise, before rushing to a mirror. In your reflection, you saw yourself, white-haired and fox-ified, wearing a white and gray version of the cheongsam that the suit had just absorbed!
The colors were off, but it was nearly an exact replica! It even added a tasteful black underlayer to cover your upper body.
Tiny splotches of color started to fill in the bland outfit, slowly returning the dyes that had been salvaged from the original design.
“Okayyyy…not gonna lie, that is pretty cool.” you said, smiling at your reflection, and twirling back and forth to check yourself out from multiple angles.
Your smile slipped once you realized that you would need to explain what happened to your grandmother, and then reimburse her for it.
As if sensing your thoughts, the living dress stretched out a bolt of cloth and began recreating the dress it had ruined!
You perked up a bit at that. Whatever grandma didn't know, wouldn't hurt her.
“Oh! Thanks. Do you…have a name? My name's-”
“‘Cindy’. Yes, I know.”
You nearly jumped out of your skin when that low, predatory voice snarled into your ear!
“Huh!? Who's there!?”
You whirled around, searching for any signs of danger...only to find a floating disembodied head staring at you from over your shoulder.
You opened your mouth to scream, but a bolt of cloth wrapped itself around your mouth, muffling your voice.
The disembodied head leaned closer, shushing you as if you were a baby. It had So many sharp teeth! But they all seemed to be…made of cloth?
“Be at peace, Warrior Priest. We are allies in this war against the darkness. I too am a devout follower of Khonshu.”
You stared up at those white, soulless eyes in disbelief. This thing was-
“Cindy? Is everything alright in there? We heard screaming!”
Your head turned to stare at the door that your grandmother was standing on the opposite side of. The floating head was staring at you, and you stared at it.
Slowly, the bandages around your mouth loosened, and you breathed a small sigh of relief.
“It's okay, grandma! I'm fine.” you answered, not pulling your eyes away from the strange creature. “I just…stubbed my toe.”
You winced as soon as the words left your mouth. It was a poor lie, but you couldn't think of anything else to say.
“O-okay. Just…try to be more careful.” she warned, her voice taking on an odd note.
Great. Now she was going to think that you were some kind of klutz.
You waited until she stepped away from the door before you started talking again. Now, it was just you and the magic mummy thing.
