“Ahh, yes.” Bennett says, eyes closed. “Tell me, what was it that Lady Cornelia promised you exactly? Rich and fertile land in the Faerghus region? Wealth beyond your wildest imaginations? High quality loot to be found beyond the walls of Garreg Mach?”
“Something of the sort.” Leif says casually. By now, he was merely a lunge away from rushing past Bennett’s guards and sticking the Patriarch with his sword.
“Well, I’d assume all that is still on the table.” Bennett says. “But what if I could promise you something more?”
“Such as?”
“Salvation.” Bennett’s eyes flicker wildly. “You people have your own spirits that you worship but take my word for it when I say that the only deity that truly exists is the Goddess Sothis. She comes soon to purge the world of snakes and sinners. When she does all those that stand in defiance of her grand will shall find themselves cast into the burning inferno for all eternity. Trust me when I say that there is no greater reward than to cast your arms against the false church and the duplicitous snakes that hide from her divine light.”
“I’m…afraid you’ve lost me.” Leif says, truly sounding confused.
“Of that, I’m hardly surprised” Bennett stops smiling, and his tone wildly differs from before. “I know your kind all too well, simpleton. You only respond to the promise of material wealth. Only riches and jewels will move you to action. When offered something far greater, you can only stare forward blankly like the hapless idiot you are!”
“Excuse me?!” Leif shouts, anger evident in his voice and the sudden disrespectful tone the Patriarch takes. He uses his indignation to draw a few precious steps closer towards Bennett, whose guards are now on edge. “Need I remind you that you’re relying on us to win your battle for you?”
“My battle?” Bennett says with a contemptuous sneer and a bark of laughter. “I’m afraid you’ve been taken for a fool. This battle is the result of a thousand-year long inferiority complex. It has nothing to do with me, and everything to do with that bag of bones you saw outside!”
Suddenly, you hear a commotion outside. Something big is happening outside. Whatever it is, the bad feeling you have is amplified to its highest level.
“Your actions here confuse me, raider. Are you here to attack Garreg Mach?” Bennett asks Leif suddenly. “Or are you here perhaps for something else? Either way, I ask that you make up your mind. It is important I know where I stand with you..
>A): Stay still, see how things develop and follow Leif’s move.>B): You’ve heard enough. Spring into action and attack
