You grabbed an arrow, drew back the bowstring, aimed at one of the masked mercenaries and loosed. The flat tip of the arrow landed just below his shoulder-blades, and a sheet of ice began spreading from the tip to encase his entire body. The man was frozen solid within only a handful of seconds!
You fired a second one, and this one unfolded into a bolas that wrapped around the midsection of your second target. He fell over and struggled to get back up as the Mask Maker mauled his friends. She seemed to have the speed and strength of a real werewolf, but you were certain that she was only a demon in disguise.
Maybe Shaggy hadn’t been lying when he said that she was a practitioner of black magic.
Your next arrow contained a rapidly expanding foam that mostly enveloped your target. And the one after that released a powerful pulse of electricity that took out multiple people. You’d assumed as much from the color of the ring around the flat arrowhead. A direct hit might’ve killed the man.
A few of them tried to turn and return fire, but they either missed, or they were taken down by the other two after getting distracted. Even now, they were being careful not to use lethal force.
You were preparing for your next shot when you noticed something else. The people that you’d downed earlier…weren’t there anymore. Your eyes darted around the battlefield, and you spotted an unconscious woman that Ana had just pulverized. You watched them carefully for about half a minute, until…
A green portal formed directly beneath them, and they sank into it a moment later.
These guys were being portalled out! Even the one you froze solid a little while ago was gone!
You considered firing an arrow through one of them, but you weren’t sure what would happen if you used an arrow that you weren’t familiar with on a strange portal that you’ve never seen before.
Instead, you focused on using your remaining arrows on the people that were still active. You wouldn’t put it past the archer to have a way to track her arrows and quiver, so you thought it best to use them all up as fast as possible.
With this in mind, you started spamming arrows in rapid succession, but only the ones you’d previously identified. Soldiers were quickly frozen, electrified, and ensnared, just as you’d intended. The other two wasted no time in capitalizing on the advantage you’d given them.
Much like Eri, Ana was taking people out with her bare hands. Having abandoned the reach that her spear offered her, she utilized her impressive speed and agility to weave between targets and avoid their fire. Ben joined them a little while later, helping them mop up the remaining mercs with what looked like dual morning-stars made entirely of webbing. It was a new ability he’d gained from his trip to Vegas after he stole some alien bracelets, or something. You weren’t entirely sure what they were, even after he’d tried to explain it to you. You weren’t sure if he knew.
