All at once, everyone looked at Koa, who had his face scrunched up unhappily. After a moment’s pause, he took the phone back from Benga and gestured for everyone to get back into the truck.
“Come on. We’re pulling out.” he declared. “We don’t know exactly what’s waiting for us down there, and we’re not ready for a fight like that right now. If we meet up with Ms. Munoz and she tells us to go in, then we’ll go in. But at the very least, we’ll be more prepared for it than we are now.”
Everyone nodded their agreement, some more begrudging than others. It was a rational decision. He wasn’t saying no to any of the suggestions being thrown around, but he acknowledged that the best thing to do now was to regroup and come up with a proper plan.
Even if the A.I.M. researchers found out that you were here, there was no way for them to move an entire facility. There also wasn’t any reason to believe that they would immediately assume that you were after the synthezoid, so they probably wouldn’t try to hide it or relocate it immediately. Flint did a pretty good job of covering up your tracks out there.
You just had to hope that there was a possibility of you being able to come back out here and grab the suit before you were found out.

The ride back to the city felt long, but it gave you all the chance to try and plan out a potential break-in from the entrance that Prowler’s drone mapped out. You were, of course, sorely lacking in information regarding the base’s defenses, surveillance equipment, and on-site personnel, but it felt better than just sitting in silence the entire way back.
Araña was confident that she could steal a cloaking device from Rollo’s boys in Area 52, and she seemed adamant on bringing the matter up with Gloria when during the debrief. Koa still didn’t like the idea of antagonizing another member of the family, even if it was Gloria’s rival, but you could also tell that he wasn’t willing to come out of this empty-handed.
Whatever this synthezoid body meant to Gloria, it was important enough that she was willing to involve outsiders in her operation. From what you could gather, the Family was a tightly knit bunch that handled their affairs in-house. You were still struggling to wrap your head around the idea that the cops wouldn’t bother you so long as you played by her rules. There were no Helicarriers to rein you in if you caused a scene, and no Avengers to punish you for your misdeeds. Being here gave you a strange sense of freedom that you hadn’t felt since the very first time you’d discovered your powers.
And all this was from a woman who barely trusted you. You wondered what it would be like if you managed to get on her good side.

It had gotten dark when you reentered the Mirage from a secret entrance. By now, the building was lit up by LED’s and the prop volcano was roaring to life. You took a few pictures with your mask’s lenses and discreetly saved them to your phone for later.
