“Did the Collector store any dangerous creatures here before it was stolen? Do you think that might become a problem later?”
Van paused in mid air to consider your question.
“It is quite possible that there were a few that didn’t take their opportunity to escape when the device was stolen. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are a few alien species that have made a home here in one of these regions.”
Hmm. You’d have to look into that later, then. Maybe you’ll invite Ana here for a nice relaxing hunt someday. That ought to score you some brownie points with her. It was exotic, and a hell of a lot easier than going back to Neverland to hunt mermaids. You doubt Lost Boy would be happy about that, either way.
“And you’re not worried about that?”
“Not terribly, no. Are you?”
You shook your head, taking another look around as you did so. There was a cool breeze blowing through the field, which was a little more realistic than you’d expected from a virtual landscape.
“My Spider Sense isn’t acting up, so I guess we’re safe for the time being.”
She looked confused by that last statement, but you were too busy eyeing that car you stole to pay any real attention to her.
“Wanna go for a drive?”
“If I say yes, will you explain to me what a ‘Spider Sense’ is?”
You just shrugged.
“I barely know what it is myself, if I’m being terribly honest. You probably won’t be satisfied with my answer.”
“The greatest mysteries rarely have satisfying answers.”
You stared up at the woman floating beside you.
“Are you quoting someone, or are you just trying to make up your own?”
The corners of her lips curved upwards into a slight smirk.
“I have several famous quotes, actually. That is not one of them.”
“Oh yeah? Hit me with a few of them.”

Getting the car up and running was a fairly simple matter compared to some of the jobs you’ve taken on since becoming the Huntsman. Almost refreshingly so. Something familiar and normal enough to make you forget that you were performing it in a pocket dimension.
Now, it wasn’t nearly as easy as they made it seem in the movies. You couldn’t just cross a few wires, touch them together and be on your merry way. Breaking into modern cars without the use of a key usually involved the thief hacking into the onboard computer. And so long as you were very familiar with the make and model of the car— which you just so happened to be—you could more or less figure out how to fake the digital signature that was required from the owner’s key. What came as a surprise was when Van stepped over to give you pointers when she thought that you didn’t know what you were doing. You were slightly curious to see how she would do on her own, but you did have some amount of personal pride to defend here.
