Hiding in the woods while the rest of the animals beat their heads against one another- some humans could learn a lot from…whatever sort of animal this other primate was. He wasn’t a zoologist. Three had been turned to two.
The village defenders had a completely different concern- for a moment, it was not the T-15s, but the pair of colossal explosions that flattened a good part of the village’s cottages and threw up a great cloud of dust, shards of stone and clods of earth whizzing about and falling like rain upon the deafened troops and tankers alike. The bombardment was too imprecise to be effective- nobody was hurt, but not a one of the now thoroughly dust-coated men in the village was in any state to prepare shots or register what was happening- not until the ringing in their ears subsided and they saw the enemy had wandered closer in what felt like an instant.

A sudden sharp cannonade to the right shook Krasnyy from his dull contempt. Enemies this far up?
“We’re hit!” Tank Two cried out, “That’s fire. Sorry, Krasnyy.”
No response was necessary. Krasnyy’s platoon was made up of men who were worth something- they’d already proved their worth. A shower of heavy machine gun fire followed the shots- presumably hoping to get lucky and damage his tanks further. A respectable flank maneuver, but a hopeless ambition, that. Twaryian Grit was not so readily felled by something so immaterial as <span class="mu-i">luck</span>.
…Though. The Moskity had announced their intention to retreat, just now. He was not going to do that with this enemy. Though perhaps Rozov was right. Maybe some of these heretics would be worth a fight. That one in the woods, perhaps, that had found his flank…
He switched to his company network, and was met with the unpleasant news that one of the heavy types had been struck in the flank and knocked out. “Eliminate the enemy,” was his only response, “I’m going west. 2nd Platoon, take the village on. 3rd Platoon, don’t be defeated like fools.”
