>>5384567Once the bullets are gone from your person, the sensation of flesh and bone repairing itself has already kicked in. Not for the first time in your life do you wish you could share your regeneration power with your teammates, but such a hope is vain and utterly impossible.
The sound of stomping boots echoing down the hall brings you back to reality with all the force of a mack truck, but, this time, they sound notably different, enough that it has your head whipping around to check behind you.
Coming up quickly is a trio of men clad in diamond armor, and, while one of them is armed with a gun– the same gun that likely put a hole in your elbow and leg– the other two opt to charge with those funny-looking rods.
“You guys better run if you know what’s good for you~” Ursula crows, also happening to notice the diamond-suited men. “Bet you thought my suit was the only one like that, but the rapier on mine was custom~”
“Did you forget what I said about shutting your mouth?” If looks could kill, the seething glare Julia’s sending towards Ursula would make the scientist into a charred spot on the ground.
“Oops… pardon me there, sweetheart~” Ursula doesn’t sound the least bit repentant. “Won’t happen again.”
The woman doesn’t need to tell you guys twice, you and Julia renewing your mad-dash through FutureLabs’ facilities. Even with their bejeweled exoskeletons, the guards have trouble matching your pace and reaction speeds because, at the end of the day, they’re still just normal humans trying to match up with the two of you guys.
You’re running with renewed fervor, fast enough that it feels as if your body’s pitching forwards from the sheer speed of your legs moving and muscles pumping as one.
Then, without warning, you’re falling, falling, falling– lost in the limbo of weightless vertigo, your body’s a comet, one that’s catching up with the vast, sandy expanse of the desert at lightning-speed. But when were you in a desert in the first place? You could’ve sworn you were just in the labs with Julia and that creepy Ursula lady!
The backdrop suddenly flickers, starlit desert replacing itself with the white hallways you were just standing in. Your body’s still upright, still running forwards for all it’s worth; but, when you blink your eyes open and closed, you find yourself planted face-first into the sand, mouth taking in a whole heap of the gritty, foul-tasting stuff as your body hits the ground with a dull ‘thud.’
