You, Jacob and Elizabeth head off into the red fog, you activate your suits rad filtration systems pre-emptively, it does make you some what noisier as the armors reactor whirs up slightly to compensate for the increased energy consumption, but it's within acceptable mission parameters.
All three of you have crouched down and moved began moving towards a relatively open area that appear on the outskirts of the town, you and Elizabeth post up while Jacob gets to digging the hole to place the mine on his back in, it takes some tense minutes as you feel like you're being watched, flitting just out of sight on the edges of your watch you see shapes moving through the fog.
You don't let your nerves get to you, you'll pull back with Jacob and Elizabeth once everything is set up and secure for remote detonation and then approach again from a different angel, you've got the feeling that this one has been compromised. The part that's trying to unnerve you is just how delicately the ferals seem to be approaching the situation... and just how damn quite their footsteps are. You begin to wonder just how many people have tried to scavenge this place and were ambushed by these monsters... you're not left alone with your thoughts for long as Jacob pats your leg and stands up.
You nod, looking back to see the mine set up, with the external payload as a back up, and the noisemakers readied, the meat is hooked up to a box that will open when the rest of the system is activated so as to prevent the smell from leaking out.
You begin to back away, signaling to everyone get into a back to back to back formation as you pull out. The Ferals do not attack yet... they know your ready for them.
Once out of the fog you take a wide birth away from the area to head around into another having marked down the location of the mine's co-ordinates.
You here the sound of a body collapsing and look off in the distance as several figures scatter into the fog with one corpse on the ground head missing, you didn't hear the shot so you assume your brother got that one.
They were tracking you. You narrow your eyes, you don't like this one bit. Whatever pack leaders these FEV Feral ghouls have need to die, or else the whole plan might get scrapped. You'll need to be even more careful than you were before, you look at Jacob, "I want you to get ready to rig your plasma grenades into a trap for the ferals, we're going to start picking off their leadership."
Jacob tilts his head, "Leadership?" he looks back at where the corpse was, "Oh shit..."
Elizabeth seems unimpressed, and you can already feel that impetuous attitude start to get the better of her so you put your hand on her shoulder and she immediately calms down.
