It was an actual, physical effort to rein in your anger and frustration from having been slapped in the face so damn thoroughly by W.A.N.D., S.H.I.E.L.D., and everyone else that was trying to take advantage of you. Was it so fucking wrong to want to save one little girl without having it get blown way the fuck out of proportion!?
Why did everyone have to make every single thing in your life so damn hard?
Breathe. Just…breathe. 7 seconds in, 9 seconds out. 7 seconds in, 9 seconds out.
When you were finally able to talk, you had to talk over the others, who were arguing with Pandora, and each other about ethics and possible solutions.
“What if we could find another Silvertongue? One that could extract Cindy’s voice and give it back to her?”
Pandora’s lips pressed into a thin line, and she looked as if she’d like nothing more than to follow your suggestion. “We’ve been trying. But these things are usually much better at hiding than this idiot.” she said, pointing a thumb at the imprisoned creature. “These things were meant to work in pairs when they were created. Having just one puts us at a disadvantage.”
“Well,” you shrugged. “Why don’t we just…make one?”
The room fell dead silent. Even the Silvertongue herself had stopped to stare at you incredulously.
Pandora spluttered. “W-what?”
“These things were originally made by other people, right? We can just make another one.”
There was now muttering amongst your teammates as they consulted one another about the viability of such a plan. Rintrah was the first to speak up.
“That might work. With enough research, we might be able to recreate the formula that gave life to these creatures in the first place.” he thought aloud.
“It’s worth a shot.” Nico offered.
“I can only hope that they are more reasonable than the one we have currently.” Louise put in.
Pandora looked thoughtful, and to your surprise, slightly impressed. “It’s possible, but…there are a lot of ways that this can go wrong. Creating artificial life has never been easy in the field of alchemy. It’s way easier to transmute an already existing lifeform.” she said. “But…I have to admit that it’s a better plan than what we’ve been going on up until now. I think it’s worth exploring as a possibility.”
The others exchanged encouraging glances with one another. They were trying to be cautiously hopeful. And to be entirely honest, you were doing the same underneath that mask of yours.
“What’s so dangerous about these languages anyways?” you asked.
