Division Command, this is Captain Strelzyienev with the 10th Mechanized’s Anti-Tank company, we’ve just arrived with the 10th Mechanized’s Recon company. We’re ready to deal with the Petrekorans.”
“There’s been a change of priorities, Captain. There’s GCA contact to the south. The armor formation that just smashed up 8th and 10th battalion. We need you to prepare for battle right away. 10th’s Recon company is now under your command.”
“That isn’t what I wanted to hear. Where’s Krasnyy? I heard he got away.”
“Doing his own thing with God knows what. Listen, now. The east flank has to be cleared of enemies. What’s left of 8th Mechanized along with some help from across the line is coming, and if they make it without being interdicted, we might be able to hold this town and prevent a general retreat further. We’ll be forced to retreat otherwise, and…there’s people here who don’t want that yet. Important people.”
“Acknowledged.”
“Also, Captain.”
“Yes?”
“Be aware that there are enemy units that have armor able to withstand 4.5-centimeter fire.”
“That’s fine. The Dragoncurse could deal with Ellowians, it can deal with whatever Vynmark has.”

In the east, the fighting was quickly punctuated as Krogh’s men dismounted and, bringing all their armaments to bear, wiped the last small resistance in the village away, blasting and burning away anything that moved. It was more like cleaning up a floor with a mop than one might care to admit, unless they had a particularly virulent dislike of the easterners. Though, Krogh had to think to himself, given earned quiet, he didn’t like the sight of the fires set about a village that didn’t look dissimilar to his own home. That was on the shore, far from here, but what would happen to his home, his wife and children, if the enemy advanced there while he was up here?
Would it look like it did here?
