For the longest time I've been wanting to run a long form open world hexcrawlish quest inspired by old school tabletop games like B/X. It would follow multiple PCs of humble origins until their eventual death or retirement into the game world. I have never been able to figure out the mechanics to run it in this medium. Dungeon crawling in particular seems like it would be really cumbersome and slow if you actually used B/X rules.
Any ideas on how to make this work?
