“Can you explain yourself like Vera asked? Why did you kidnap her?” You reiterate your favorite rat’s questions.
“That’s a loaded question with no easy answers.” Bray wants to weasel out of this one.
“STU—”
“FINE! Fine! Fine...! No more insults, my mouth is ready to talk!” Bray interrupts before Vera says the S-word. “Before we dwell on this, I want to let you know that I’m not the enemy, I’m on your side too, and I know deep in my heart that we can work something out.”
“You kidnapped me.” Vera frowns.
“It wasn’t like I wanted to hurt you for real. The plan didn’t pan out as I intended, that’s it.” Bray tries to wash his hands from this. “Like, heart to heart? I have a massive crush on you and your long, long legs. The kidnapping was all a setup. I was supposed to be your knight in shining armor, rescuing you from those evildoers, you’d fall in love with me, then we’ll use your powers for… stuff. Good stuff.”
“Are you out of your god-forsaken mind?” Vera feels insulted.
“Primavera, please, we know all the rumors are true. You’re a clingy, obsessive girl who perpetually lives in denial and who’s a hopeless romantic with a knack for getting into bad one-sided relationships that turn into restraining orders. You’re not complicated, that’s all that would’ve taken, you know it because it already happened. But you’re in luck because I find all that very hot!” Bray smiles.
“Don’t LISTEN to him!!!” Vera is furiously embarrassed. She wants to strangle our ‘hero’.
“Four-eyes, I know you’re the guy who screwed this up. You thought you were the hero, but you put us all in danger. Congratulations.” Bray shakes his head. “I don’t hate you for this, but I really want to.”
“How do you know about her powers?” You need all the information you can get.
“Don’t tell him anything.” Vera wants you to keep your cards close to your chests and not tell him about her powers, but it’s pointless, Bray has already mentioned them a bunch of times.
“I have a flame too.” Bray reveals like it’s a big deal. “And my flame knows hers and its powers.”
“Flame?” You don’t know what he’s talking about.
“The demons look like flames. I didn’t think it was an important detail since nobody but the host can see them in this form.” Vera didn’t want to hide anything.
“Just for the record, our flames are a couple. So, you’re perpetually making everything awkward for us, four-eyes.” Bray gets snarky.
